Happy Boss Day
Hi Pretland Family,
The entire Pretland team will be having a barbeque session together to celebrate Boss Day with me, their crystal empress. (kidding, of course, no matriarchy here)
I understand your concerns and not all bosses are great to work for.
But I want to say that as a business owner myself, we have more responsibility and a huge weight over our shoulders compared to our employees.
I have to always think about how I can care for my team in the best way possible and also ensure the business is working in tip-top condition.
And it’s not always easy.
In the eyes of the employee, they may think that it is unfair to them and they have no say because they are not the boss.
But that is not true all the time.
Trust me, your boss has it hard too.
But he/she has to act tough in front of everyone all the time because he is the leader of the company.
If the boss falls, who will take care of the company?
The boss is always looking out for everyone, not just himself.
Even though he is incentivized to do so, it is still a very challenging feat.
Now, this is not a rant blog.
With the ongoing pandemic for several months now and the economy slumping back into a recession, many businesses have it hard now.
So I am sure your bosses are all feeling the stress too.
But if you can show appreciation and support that everything will be ok.
If you are willing to be a great team player that I know you are.
I am sure your boss will love you for that and this positivity will spread throughout the entire company.
And as one company, you guys will be able to stay positive even in difficult and uncertain times like these.
Which is exactly what everyone needs now to brave the storms.
Who knows how long this storm will last?
At least you have each other, like how we have our Pretland family.
So, I went to research and think about three sneaky ways that you can do to make your boss love you on his/her special day.
Without spending ANY money.
- Bake a cake
Let’s go back to the basic rule of Giving Gifts 101; making a gift from the heart – baking a cake.
Baking a cake does not have to be a tedious solo task. You can get together with the rest of your colleagues and bake a cake together as a team exercise.
I love baking cakes. I mean who doesn’t?
They are fun to make and delicious to eat, so yummy.
My favorite cake is the Red Velvet cake for sure.
What is your boss's favorite cake?
Go check on his/her Instagram page for some clues after reading this blog.
Besides adding a personal touch that everyone gets to enjoy, it also cultivates teamwork and simple team bonding.
It gives a reason to encourage employee participation and this gives you the opportunity to get to know your colleagues on a personal level.
A cake may sound simple, but it is the thought and effort that counts.
You can even turn it up a notch and leave a personal message on the cake for your boss.
Now your boss gets to eat two cakes this year, one on his birthday and one today!
- Create a team card
So nobody is daring enough to bake an edible and tasteful cake.
Yes, not everyone likes to get their hands dirty. (or tasty)
Another way to celebrate Boss’s Day is to get your boss a gift with a personal touch.
A simple card signed by the employees is another way to say “We appreciate you”.
Select a card that fits your boss’s personality and then hand-write a note containing specific examples of his/her contributions.
Once everyone has had a chance to sign the card, ask the boss’s pet and deliver it to the boss. (Or you can treat the person a meal for doing the bravest thing today in the office)
Cards are wonderful gifts for any occasion.
Hearing the thoughts of others in handwritten cards can completely make your day better.
And the best part is you get to keep those thoughts forever.
- Create a thank you video
We all have the ability to create a short video in our pockets – most phones have great quality video cameras!
Wait until the boss is out one day, and then the team can record very short thank you messages to him/her. Then upload it to YouTube, setting the video to private if you wish.
On Boss Day, post the link to your intranet or company chat
– he/she will love the thought that went into it, and will no doubt look back fondly at this video in the time to come.
So these are the three free ways you can show some love and appreciation for your boss.
Who says you need to spend money on it?
Ultimately, it is the thought that counts and I am sure every boss wants to be loved and appreciated by his/her company.
For all the hard work they put in to make sure the company continues to grow and everyone can return home safely to their families.
So that everyone has an income to draw and be able to pay for their daily needs.
The role of your boss is not an easy one.
I am sure some of you would reject the position even if you were given the opportunity because of the sheer pressure of the position.
Having billions of things to think about and handle every second.
Having responsibility for so many lives and families.
So even if it is a short thank you video or card, doing this for your boss on his/her special day will go a long way down the road.
Oh yes, we are almost done preparing for our Pretland barbeque session.
Can’t wait already! I am so hungry for those juicy ribs…
